Thought Leadership Series – Internationalisation through Corporate Sustainability: The Anti-Corruption Imperative

Monday 11 December 2017, 02:30pm - 05:00pm

Singapore is ranked 7th out of 176 countries on the global least-corrupt index. The factors critical to Singapore’s well-earned reputation are its effective laws, the independent judiciary, effective enforcement and responsive public service, underpinned by strong political will and leadership. Businesses in Singapore are well protected by the legislation. However, this may not be the case in the conduct of business globally.

Corruption seems to exist in every country, with different countries possessing different standards and practices, arising from varied business and cultural histories. Despite efforts by the political leadership, corruption still exists, and, in some circumstances, could be considered a norm in certain countries. In order to penetrate into such markets, businesses may gravitate towards dubious practices, adapting to seemingly acceptable practices in order to thrive in a market.

In this thought leadership event, we will address the following topics:

- What are the approaches/strategies to enter into markets with apparently dubious ethical standards?

- How does company uphold its ethical standards despite the difference in culture and business practices?

- What role can the private sector play in emerging economies to facilitate a corrupt-free business environment?
