UNU

GCNS had the opportunity to host researchers from United Nations University in a focus group discussion with GCNS SME members on 20 November 2017.

During the focus group discussion, GCNS members shared the challenges that they face in aligning their business practices to meet United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On 25 September 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. For the goals to be achieved, it is crucial that SMEs play their part too.

Aside from identifying the difficulties that they face in aligning their businesses with the 17 SDGs, GCNS members highlighted the cruciality of addressing the Global Goals in order to stay competitive and relevant in their respective industries.

Mou MPA

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS) and the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on 17 November 2017 to promote corporate sustainability in the maritime industry. The initiatives under the MoU include provision of training on sustainability reporting and a C-suite level roundtable.

GCNS looks forward to working closely with MPA in encouraging more companies in the maritime industry to adopt corporate sustainability, especially in encouraging more listed companies in this industry to fulfil the SGX sustainability reporting requirements.
